The purpose of this blog is to capture and discuss technology trends as it impacts business. There is a lot of really innovative technologies emerging (SaaS, Cloud / utility computing, the “consumer technology” invasion, social-driven collaboration within the workplace, outcome-base work roles, etc.). With all the emerging technology trends, distilling and solidifying the right IT strategy is more crucial than ever.
About Me
I’ve been an IT professional for over 10 years and specialize business analysis, project management and strateic consulting. Over the years I’ve designed, implemented, and managed numerous IT infrastructures solving widely varying business objectives. As an outsourced CIO and project manager, I can take business strategies and create and manage an IT infrastructure which delivers a balanced solution. Technically, I have extensive experience with decentralized environments, multi-office connectivity, routing and networking, server and desktop solutions, disaster recovery and business continuity.
My paradigm:
- Understand exactly what needs to be done and have a clear, actionable strategy – most IT initiatives fail because it wasn’t thoroughly defined
- Technology is useless unless it aligns with the business
- Simple tends to be better
My background
I graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in Marketing Management. I built a local Internet service provider (ISP) which I turned around sold to a national ISP during the local ISP rollup years (98 – 02). In 1999, while working with AOL Time Warner, I helped launch consumer-grade broadband packages in the Minneapolis market. In 2000, I finally figured out what I wanted to do when I grew up. I started OutsourcedIT, an outsource IT service company focusing on providing full service IT consulting and services to small- to-medium businesses. In 2005, OutsourcedIT was acquired by TECHIES, the commercial spin-off of the Geek Squad. I held different senior leadership positions within TECHIES OutsourcedIT. In Oct. of 2007 I joined Agosto, an outsource IT consulting firm focusing on mid-market companies in the upper midwest. I am a consultant and the Director of Service Delivery.
